Emily Croke- Field Hockey Superstar by MELANIE FRY '14

With her superb stick skills and outgoing personality, it is no wonder that (senior) Emily Croke is a co captain of the varsity girls' field hockey team.  Part of what makes her a good captain is that she always works hard, never gives up, and helps to unify the team with excellent leadership skills.  Having watched her sister's high school field hockey games, she learned to love the sport, and admired them for being a part of something for the school.  Even though she had never participated in a sport before, she still tried out for the seventh grade field hockey team and has worked hard to help the Wissahickon team continue its winning legacy.  Emily's favorite position is defense, although this year she has the new challenge of learning to play midfield.
Emily's favorite thing about field hockey is getting to know the girls on the team outside of school.  If not for the sport, she would not have met most of the girls on the team and enjoys talking and spending time with her teammates.  She looks forward to games and practices because she knows that she can talk to her teammates about anything, and if she is ever having an off day, she can count on one of her teammates to cheer her up.  Although she does not think that she will play field hockey in college, Emily will definitely play lacrosse whether it be club or for the school.
Wissahickon has a reputation of having a superior field hockey team and Emily likes how we work hard to uphold that standard.  She says, "As a team we all have our eyes set on winning and will do whatever it takes to be the winning team."  Although, she does think that the team need to work on being more composed during games, since sometimes referees do not always immediately make the call.  It takes mental discipline and she thinks that if we work on it as individuals, it will make the team stronger as a whole.  The Wissahickon field hockey team has a standing of 11-2, and with only a few more games to go, hopefully they will work even harder to finish out the season strong!
