Waking Up on a School Day by ALEXANDER MARINO '14

On a normal school day the firs bell rings at 7:30 A.M.  Many kids wake up between 6:00 a.m. and 6:45 to get ready for school.  While the times that kids wake up are all around each other the times that kids go to bed a spread far apart.   From the kids that we asked the times that they go to bed are between, 9:30 and one person said they go to bed daily at around 12:30.  Most people though said they go to bed between 10:30 and 11:00.  If you to bed at 11:00 each night and wake up at 6:30 that means that your only getting 6 and a half hours of sleep, the recommended hours of sleep for a teenager is between 9 and 10 hours.  Most people at this school are falling well short of that mark.
Some things that may contribute to the lack of sleep is homework, T.V./electronics, and other distractions at home.  When you do not get enough sleep, you can become lazy, tired during the day, nausea as well as many other things.  Some things to do about not getting enough sleep are: getting your homework done early, not watching T.V. as you fall asleep and when you go to bed turn off your phone so that you don’t feel the need to go check it.  Also don’t stay up as late.  If you have no reason to be staying up until midnight then don’t because you’re only hurting yourself.
Getting more sleep will help you do better in school and pay more attention in class.  Getting more sleep will also help you with sports or any other physical activity that you do.  Overall if you get more sleep on a school night then you will simply feel better.
